GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The president of a Grand Junction-based marketing, advertising and business development firm views an increase in first-quarter activity as a leading indicator of economic recovery in the area.

"One of the first indicators of economic recovery is the resurgences of marketing activity. When companies begin to increase their commitment to marketing, it is a sign of renewed confidence in their ability to sell what they produce," said Tom Sawyer, president of Ryan, Sawyer & Whitney.

Sawyer said the firm has added nine new accounts and expanded contracts with four existing clients during the first three months of the year.

"We're seeing a shift in the marketing industry," Sawyer said. "Progressive businesses, whether large or small, are starting to leverage new and innovative marketing processes. And we have invested in the personnel and tools to help our clients move effectively into this new marketing paradigm."

The new clients include medical practices, manufacturers, retailers, nonprofits, professional service providers and public entities – including the Grand Junction Regional Airport.

Ryan, Sawyer & Whitney will revamp the airport website to incorporate new functions and user interfaces into the design.

"The airport is a perfect example of an organization willing to enhance the new rules of marketing and invest their resources in innovative marketing initiatives," Sawyer said. "It's a privilege for us to be able to work with these types of clients, and it's exciting to see our work as part of a movement toward economic recovery."
